Funding Options in California

We several flexible ways for California families to access our 1-on-1 life skills learning program, including state-funded programs and private options including:

Self-Determination Program (SDP)

The Self-Determination Program (SDP) is a voluntary alternative to traditional Regional Center services that gives individuals and families greater choice and control over how supports are selected and funded. Participants receive an individualized budget and choose the services and providers that best support their person-centered goals.

ElevateAbility’s 1-on-1 life skills mentoring aligns well with SDP values and may be funded through a participant’s Self-Determination budget when tied to IPP goals such as independent living skills, community integration, social communication, and goal development. Families across California choose ElevateAbility as part of their customized SDP plan.

School District & IEP Funding

Some California school districts fund ElevateAbility services when students with IEPs need community-based instruction, transition skill development, or additional life skills support beyond what the district can provide directly. This includes teens and young adults (generally ages 14–22) receiving transition services.

Private Pay

Families may also enroll directly when they want sessions before SDP approval, don’t yet have IEP funding, or want additional weekly support beyond what their plan covers. We offer flexible visit lengths and scheduling options.

Why Families Choose ElevateAbility

Families choose ElevateAbility for our personalized, hands-on approach to building independent living skills. We offer flexible scheduling, consistent communication, and tutors trained to support individuals of all abilities in real-world environments. Our program is fully compatible with California’s Self-Determination Program and can align with IEP and transition goals when districts participate.
