1-on-1 Life Skills Tutoring Program

Learn practical skills like cooking, communication, and time management right at home, on a schedule that works for you.

How it works

Your Goals

Our guided learning program starts with your strengths, priorities, and pace. It’s personalized, like tutoring for life skills. Every activity is chosen to build real-world abilities, one step at a time.

In Your Home

We come to your learning environment: your home. Our tutors teach life skills in the places they’re actually used, making each session practical, comfortable, and truly person-centered.

Dynamic Curriculum

Our person-centered curriculum teaches real-life skills, from communication to time management, in a way that’s hands-on, flexible, and tailored to each client’s goals and learning style.

Our Approach

At ElevateAbility, we offer 1-on-1 in-home and community-based life skills tutoring. Our tutors work closely with each person to build independence in areas like hygiene, meal prep, communication, cleaning, and community involvement. Everything we do is personalized to match the individual’s needs and goals.

We proudly serve people of all abilities from those who need just a bit of guidance to those who require more hands-on, daily support. Our services are open to teens, adults, and older individuals, and we specialize in working with those navigating transitions to greater independence.

Our tutors are not caregivers—they are guides, role models, and coaches who support each client’s growth. Every tutor is trained in ElevateAbility’s unique philosophy, approach, and curriculum to ensure a consistent, person-centered experience. Traditional models tend to be reflexive, focusing on behavior and repetition, often relying on external rewards to shape progress. We take a different path—one rooted in modeling, authentic connection, and tapping into each individual’s own motivation to grow. Our sessions emphasize real-world skills, confidence, and meaningful independence—not just task completion. Each client is thoughtfully matched with a tutor whose personality, interests, and learning style align, because real progress begins with a strong, trusting relationship.

Getting started is simple. Just reach out to us and we’ll schedule a meet and greet to get to know your needs, explore goals, and help match you with the right tutor. We’ll also walk you through available funding options, including private pay, self-directed budgets, and other resources depending on your eligibility and location. No matter your situation, we’re committed to helping you find a path forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Clients may choose between 1 and 5 sessions per week, with each session lasting 4 hours. On average, clients participate in 3 sessions weekly. Schedules are personalized to meet each client’s needs and availability.

  • ElevateAbility offers person-centered, real-life learning more like tutoring for daily living. We teach in the home and community, focusing on practical experiences, not lectures or worksheets.

  • While we support hygiene routines as part of life skills learning (like brushing teeth or planning grooming), LSTs are not aides or nurses and do not provide hands-on personal care or medical support.

  • ElevateAbility is ideal for anyone seeking to develop independent living skills. Many clients experience an intellectual or developmental disability. All clients are expected to have the desire to build independent living skills with structured support.

  • Our tutors are trained to adapt their approach for a wide range of needs. As long as a client can engage in the learning process, even with support, they can benefit from our program.

  • Many of our clients do work with caregivers. Caregivers provide essential day-to-day support, while ElevateAbility focuses on skill-building. We’re here to help your loved one learn how to do more on their own. It’s not either/or. Our tutoring is a perfect complement to caregiving services.

  • Some do, but not in a client’s home, and typically not 1-on-1. ElevateAbility works in the places where skills are actually used, like a client’s kitchen or laundry room. We tailor every session to the individual, which makes the learning stick. Families may choose to enroll to supplement learning that happens at a day program.

  • Our programs are designed for adults, age 18 and up. There’s no upper age limit; as long as you're interested in building skills, making friends, and being part of a community, you’re welcome here.

  • Many clients use their self-directed budgets to cover the cost of our programs. Others are funded through their school district, and some choose to private pay. We’ll work with you to find the best option based on your situation. Just reach out and we’ll walk you through it.

  • Life happens! If you need to miss a visit, you can make it up within the same month, based on your mentor’s availability. We’ll do our best to reschedule at a time that works for everyone.
